The Balearic Islands are composed of four large islands and 11 small ones. The archipelago is comprised of two distinct groups. These are the eastern and the larger western group. The eastern group includes bigger islands like Majorca and Minorca. It also has islets such as Aucanada, Botafoch and El Rey. The western Pine Islands comprises of two large islands Ibiza and Formentera. The western islets are Ahorcados and Espalmador. The Balearic Islands’ capital is still the Palma de Mallorca. Although the Balearic Islands remain notorious for partying, some of its provinces keep Spain’s religious traditions alive. Mallorca and Ibiza are homes to cathedrals, vineyards, orange orchards and fishing settlements. These two provinces are known sanctuaries for visitors tired of partying. Another sanctuary in the Balearic Islands is the Tramuntana Hills. This is a quiet town with modern amenities.
The town of Formentera is only accessible by ferry but its beaches are worth the extra travel. Unlike its party-driven counterparts, Formentera still has a rustic feel to it. Menorca also has a laidback vibe that is simply attractive for visitors traveling with their families. This is also a common pick for older tourists who want to stay away from the noise of rave music.
In a nutshell, the Balearic Islands are more than the partygoer’s destination. It also has enclaves of quiet beaches for laidback beach bum.
