Finland: The Road Less TraveledFinland is a refreshing alternative for travelers. The greater part of Finland is intentionally undeveloped. The Finnish government and its citizens are fiercely protective of their environment and Finland’s more than 30 national parks are living proof of the country’s pro-environment policies.
Finland shares Norway’s midnight sun. The sun shines for more than 70 days in summer and does not rise for more than 50 days in winter. Finland is the homeland of Santa Claus and the Finns take their Christmas celebrations seriously. Tourists can visit Santa’s very own Post office located in the upper part of the region of Lapland. Helsinki is the heart of the country. Although the city is bustling and stays abreast with the latest technologies, it is unique because it lacks a common feature of found in all cities: high-rise buildings. The lack of tall buildings gives Finns and tourists an unobstructed view of the skyline and helps the city retainits old world charm. Finland is not a common tourist destination. The locals are friendly even if they are not used to tourists. Travelers who want to see and experience Scandinavia while avoiding the crowds will find what they are looking for in Finland.
