Centre of Attractions Centre promises no less than monumental splendor and visual delights. As Centre is not an exception to the outstandingly astonishing history of its country, the region is awash with traces of the medieval times.
The Maid of Orleans (Joan of Arc) and the flamboyant Francois I are two of Centre’s interesting historical figures. Francis I’s Chambord may be the most impressive chateau in the region, but a gamut of others is available for everyone to see and enjoy.
Bourges is proud of its St Etienne Cathedral that was built starting the 12th century. This cathedral can be seen from any roof tiles across the old town. The sculptures around the doors are very intricate and tasteful.
Farther in the Cher department, Apremont sur Allier is a medieval village dubbed the “most beautiful village†in the region, complete with floral parks, chateau and a carriage museum.
In Chartres, it’s impossible to miss its cathedral. It towers over wheat fields and pasturelands across the city. Built in an astonishing 30 years during the 12th century, it is unrivaled in the entire country and considered to be one of the most beautiful structures in Europe.
You will feel like you’re in a fairytale when you visit Indre. Thirteenth-century Azay Le Rideau is known as a sleeping beauty castle, and it’s floating on its moat. Italian renaissance style dominates this area. You can find restaurants from wall to wall. This is a major tourist attraction, so get ready to brave a crowd on your way here. But really, the hassle is all worth it.
If a place is all about being pretty, it is hard to beat Amboise. It has a fabulous chateau set above the town, giving you the most amazing views across the river. In fact, Leonardo da Vinci used to spend time right here.
