Perhaps the most romantic and spell-binding city in Ile-de-France, Paris represents the region’s captivating beauty without failure. The city brings in most of the tourists Ile-de-France gets and everybody falls in love the moment they set foot.
The region is known for its drizzling weather. Always bring an umbrella even on summer months. Be watchful of the clouds too as spectacular transformations are dramatic. Imagine sitting in a park bench with drizzles pelting your cheeks as you look up and marvel how the cloud changes so fast yet so beautifully.
Most of Ile-de-France, Paris in particular, is relatively flat surface so bicycles are used for leisure travels from one tourist spot to the next. They can be rented at train stations. Other modes of transport are not recommended when traveling here. It is almost blasphemy to ride a car when traveling in Paris. You have got to walk to enjoy the City of Light.
To see most of Paris on foot, you can walk from West to East beginning at the Arc de Triomphe and finishing at the Ile de la Cite. This will take you about 1-2 hours without stops. In taking this walk, you’ll be able to see Paris’ most famous stores, restaurants and attractions like Petit Palais, Grand Palais, Tour Eiffel, Madeleine, The Louvre, The Seine and Notre Dame.
If you happen to get lost in the streets, it’s advisable that you find the closest hotel and ask the concierge. Most Parisians speak English well but it will be nice to keep a little French handy: Bonjour Monsieur, parlez-vous Anglais?
