Algarve, the Shining Celebrity among Holiday Destinations The region of Algarve, located in the southernmost part of Portugal with a coastline of about 155 kilometers, has the magnetism and vibrant aura of highly desired film celebrities. The vivid beauty of Algarve’s beaches, grottos, and limestone caves along its coastline, however, cannot be wholly captured in films.
It boasts of desirable mediterranean climate, with the highest temperature hovering around the 15 and 31 degrees range. This makes Algarve comfortably warm and hypnotic. Its beaches noted for its cleanliness and safety invite people to have fun and engage in a variety of watersports such as diving, surfing, bodyboarding, waterskiing, windsurfing, and jet-skiing. In addition, its internationally designed golf courses impress sophisticated golfers because of its majestic landscape and year-round gentle climate.
Eco-conscious people can be guaranteed that there was effort taken to make sure that nature is not compromised for tourism in Algarve. Praia da Marinha, Lagoa in Algarve has been cited as one of the world’s most beautiful and well-preserved beaches. The Ria Formosa lagoon which extends to 170 km2 is also protected due to the numerous species of birds that have settled there. Cape St. Vincent is located at the western tip of the Algarve coast. It got its name from the arrival of the ship carrying the corpse of St. Vincent, escorted by two ravens. Fortifications commissioned in 1846 by Queen Maria II can still be seen today. This is also the site of the famous navy battle in 1797, where a Spanish fleet was defeated by the Cape St. Vincent Navy. Other historic fortifications include the Fortaleza de Sagres, located 2km. south from Sagres, rebuilt in concrete in the 18th century, and the castle ruins of Castro Marim built in the 13th century.
Algarve has gained many fans from Britain, Germany and Holland. Many Europeans have even bought homes in Algarve. Some have turned them into guesthouses for tourists. Aside from these accommodations, guests can book in high-rise resorts in cities such as Albufeira and Lagos, or choose local guesthouses in the villages and towns surrounding the coast of Algarve.
Algarve is a perfect place to own or rent a vacation home where you and your family can be active and have great fun!
