The village lies in Roussillon. in the heart of French CATALUNYA, arguably one of the most interesting areas of France, steeped in history and with a wide range of holiday acivities, all helped by an average of 330 days of sunshine per year. The regional capital, Perpignan (8km), once the seat of the kings of Majorca whose palace dominates the centre, has a charming cathedral and excellent shops. The nearest town of Elne (3km), formerly the Roman capital of the region, has a medieval cathedral and cloister, and is also well supplied with supermarkets and has 2 weekly markets. To the north are the remains of the many Cathar castles, while the pilgrim routes across the Pyrenees to Compostella are marked by picturesque abbeys and monasteries.
The Spanish border is 20km with easy access to Figueres (Dali Museum), Girona and Barcelona, the mountains of the Garrotxa and the coast of the Costa Brava.

On the ground floor there is a large open plan hall/study/sitting area. The bedrooms and bathroom are also on the ground floor as is a second toilet/cloakroom.
The main accommodation is on the first floor and comprises a spacious living area of 37 m2 with pine flooring and stone walls. The ceiling rises to 4½ m and has wood cladding with the original beams exposed. The staircase divides the sitting-room, with TV/video/ DVD/stereo and wood-burning stove, from the modern, fully equipped kitchen, with electric oven and hob, dishwasher and microwave, and the dining area which has seating for 6. Patio doors lead to the secluded walled-terrace. A spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine with single futon above the kitchen. A door leads to the upper terrace with views of the Pyrenées.

The walled terrace is completely secluded, excellent for sunbathing and quiet relaxation; it is equipped with dining-table, with seating for 6, and chairs and loungers. The summer kitchen has hot and cold running water. The upper sun terrace has views of the mountains and the cathedral at the nearest town, Elne (3km).

The coast (5km) comprises miles of broad, sandy beaches, changing to rocky coves as the mountains join the sea. For those keen on water sports, apart from swimming and sunbathing, it is an excellent area for sailing, jet-skiing, scuba-diving and snorkelling. The beach resorts of St. Cyprien, Argeles and Canet Plage are very lively in the summer. The first of the natural harbours at Collioure (10km) is dominated by it castle and combines good beaches with many high quality shops and restaurants in its narrow streets.Closer to hand is the lake at Villeneuve de la Raho (3km) a dedicated leisure facility with cafes and restaurants, the warm, shallow water being ideal for young children.
There are many opportunities for the keen walker, the nearest being about 6km in the Alberes (foothills of the Pyrenees), which rise to 1100m, offering gentle to medium forest walks. The area is dominated by the mountain of Canigou (2700m) which is a popular and challenging walk, and the trans-Pyreneean footpath (GR10) can be easily accessed at various points between the ski resorts of the Cerdagne (80km) and the sea. Extensive skiing (alpine and cross-country) from November to March.

The local area is very well served with shops, restaurants and leisure activities. In summer the swimming lake at Villeneuve de la Raho (3km)has a variety of waterside bars and restaurants. Also within 3km are the shops and restaurants of Elne and, towards Perpignan, a restaurant and leisure complex with multi-screen cinema and 10-pin bowling.
Ryanair (Stansted/Birmingham); Flybe (Southampton) fly to Perpignan. Most Ryanair destinations fly to Girona (Northern Spain - about 70 mins) where car hire is normally cheaper than in France.
The train service (Eurostar/TGV from London to Perpignan) is a pleasant alternative.
All bus journeys in the Pyrenees Orientales are 1 Euro irrespective of distance.
